MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION

If you are:

  • Retired, and have a total income from all sources not exceeding $19,200, you may be eligible for a reduction from ($36 to $10) in the cost of your motor vehicle registration.

PACE/PACENET Pharmaceutical Assistance/PACE PROGRAM

If you are:


  • 65 years of age or older and
  • have an annual income under $14,500 for single persons or $17,700 for married couples,

... you may be eligible to obtain a PACE card for the senior citizen prescription assistance program. You pay only a modest co-pay for each prescription.

PACENET PROGRAM

If you are:

  • 65 years of age or older and
  • have an annual income between $14,500 and $27,500 for single persons or $17,700 and $35,500 for married couples, you may still be eligible for state prescription assistance with a slightly higher co-pay. “PACE Plus Medicare” combines provisions of the state’s PACE and PACENET programs with the federal government’s Medicare Part D prescription program in an effort to give PACE/PACENET enrollees one of the best prescription packages in the nation.

PROPERTY TAX/RENT REBATE

If you are:

  • 65 years of age or older; or
  • 50 years of age or older and widow/widower; and
  • you are a homeowner, and your income is less than $35,000 (with one half of Social Security or Railroad Retirement excluded from the income calculation); or
  • you are a renter, and your income is less than $15,000 (with one half of Social Security or Railroad Retirement excluded from the income calculation), you may be eligible for a rent rebate of up to $650.

TAX BREAK FOR HOMESELLERS

Homeowners, regardless of age, who are in the process of selling their homes may qualify for exemption from paying state income tax from the sale of a principal residence if they satisfy ownership and use requirements.

TRANSPORTATION PROGRAMS

If you are:

  • 65 years of age or older

You may ride the Port Authority bus or “T” for free. Apply for your senior Connect card downtown at the Port Authority Service Center.

MEALS ON WHEELS

If you are homebound, unable to prepare meals, and living without any assistance, you can receive nutritious meals delivered right to your door. Meals are regularly delivered at lunchtime Monday through Friday.
